become a superstar volunteer

Would you like to learn new skills and meet new people? We urgently need volunteers to help out at our 30 shops across Wales.

It is a great way of adding some really useful skills to your CV. Plus, by donating a bit of your time and energy to Tŷ Hafan, you’ll help us provide comfort, care and support to more children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Meet one of our lovely volunteers, Maureen.

Maureen has been a volunteer at our Cwmbran Shop for five years (she thinks, it could be longer).

When she’s not volunteering she sings with Pontnewydd Ladies Choir, she gardens extensively and she bakes too. In her spare time Maureen is a big knitter.

Always looking for a project that’ll consume huge amounts of odds and ends of wool this year’s Easter project was to make a number of Easter chicks for us to sell in the shop, each one trimmed by hand , aslo containing an Easter surprise.

This year Maureen managed to out knit herself and produce just over 200 chicks, it might have been less but someone found a “cheep” supply of eggs to go in the chicks...

The next project is underway already, knitting tiny jumpers for babies born in developing countries the jumpers are referred to as “fish and chip” jumpers, yes, I was confused too...

Way to go Maureen...
